Guppy by Ai – A Multi Sensual Experience

One the cutest and most beautiful places to dine in Delhi. This oriental restaurant is the little gem in a very quiet and calm Lodhi Colony. Every corner of the places speaks volumes about the thought that has gone behind it, something so oriental.

Japanese’s love for harmony, attention to detail and quirkiness are known world over and these traits are very well reflected in the food and the ambiance of this place.
One of the many beautifully done windows
Scrumptious food, beautiful setting and impeccable service- that is how I would like to describe Guppy by Ai.
Menu- Quirky and Cute
I can never  have enough of oriental food – I sometimes wonder if I am addicted to MSG or is it the plain love for the flavors that attract me. Lets leave that for some other occasion and come back to the Guppy by Ai.
I had been hearing about their set lunch menu for a long time and finally decided to try it a few days ago.
Uber cute Soy Sauce Pot
The set menu lunch comprises of a Soup, Salad, Sushi of the day, Main Dish, Noodle/Rice, Dessert Platter and Green Tea – yes that’s a lot of food for one person! It ranges from Rs. 900 to Rs 1050 depending on the Main Dish – which you choose from the options comprising Vegetables, Tofu, Chicken, Fish, Tenderloin and Prawns.
Green Salad with Wafu Dressing- look at those colours!
So I decided to have the Miso soup, Green Salad with Wafu Dressing, Spicy Tuna Roll in Organic Red Rice, Spicy Tobanjan Grilled Market Fish and Udon Noodles with Exotic Mushrooms. Hold your breath all this food along with the Dessert platter which had tiny four types of desserts and a cup of very refreshing green tea costed me Rs.1227 inclusive of taxes!
Miso Soup
The portions were quite hearty and food lovely.
The Miso Soup had the perfect sour tinge because of the fermented soy along with very soft melt in mouth tiny chunks of Tofu, wakame and spring onion.
Green Salad with Wafu Dressing was full of freshest greens and that mild wafu dressing and sesame seeds – has to be the best part of meal.
Spicy Tuna Roll was a beautifully made Uramaki with natural black rice on the outside and nice spicy mayo tuna with delicate tobiko and tanuki tempura lending the perfect taste and layers of flavors!
The very well made Sushi
Spicy Tobanjan Grilled Market Fish was hot and characteristic beany sauce with beautifully done fish and was a quite a big portion for one.
Spicy Tobjan Grilled Fish-the main dish I chose
Udon Noodles with Exotic Mushrooms was burst of flavors with a variety of mushrooms along with other vegetables lending a distinct character and texture to the Noodles. And the nutty flavour of the white and black sesame seeds made this one extremely delicious.
The very flavourful and beautiful looking Udon Noodles
Dessert Platter was the perfect end to a superlative meal, even though I am not much of a dessert person but for a change I was looking forward to the dessert platter since the beginning of the meal. It had fabulous looking four different bite sized desserts- Red Velvet Cake, Carrot Cake, Gooey Chocolate Cake and Fruit Satay char grilled with plum sauce and topped with sesame seeds. Each one was a star on its own with lot of finesse and flavors.
Petit Four
Spiced Carrot Cake
Chocolate Cake
The Star of the meal
Red Velvet – the nicest ever
Washed it all this with a big cup of green tea while looking outside the beautiful window.
Green Tea- the saviour
Guppy by Ai is one of the few places in the city where every single element – be it the ambiance, the menu, the food or the service is just perfect and in tandem with the overall vibe of the place! If you haven’t tried this place as yet you are surely missing out an extraordinary multi sensual experience.
